LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT PRACTICE

SAHN WARD COSCHIGNANO & BAKER represents clients in a variety of matters relating to labor relations and employment law. The Firm’s attorneys have extensive knowledge and experience in negotiating contracts with public employee unions as well as representing public sector clients in administrative proceedings under Section 75 of the Civil Service Law and before PERB.

Our Partner, Kenneth Auerbach, served as Corporation Counsel to the City of Binghamton for eight years, during which time he was responsible for serving as the City’s chief labor negotiator with police, fire, CSEA and Teamster unions.   He currently represents municipal clients on labor and employment matters, including the Incorporated Village of Sands Point, where the Firm serves as the Village labor counsel.

Partner Daniel Baker likewise has extensive experience as labor relations counsel in the public sector.  He has represented Policemen’s Benevolent Associations and Firefighters in negotiations with various municipalities, proceedings before PERB, litigation, Section 75 disciplinary and internal affairs hearings and binding arbitration.  A list of clients Mr. Baker has represented includes the Nassau County Detective’s Association, the Suffolk County Superior Officer’s Association, the New York City Uniform Firefighter’s Association and several other Village PBA and firefighter unions.  Mr. Baker has also represented the Nassau Center for Developmental Disabilities in collective bargaining with the Center’s teacher’s union.

Hon. Edward G. McCabe, Special Counsel to the Firm, has wide-ranging experience in labor relations matters.  As Town Attorney for the Town of North Hempstead, Justice McCabe negotiated contracts with the CSEA on behalf of the Town for eight years.  As administrative Judge of Nassau County and as County Attorney for Nassau County, he also handled and adjudicated Article 78 proceedings under Section 75 of the Civil Service Law.
